Fisetin Levels in Fruits and Vegetables? (no replies)

Hi,

Recently read post "Natural product found to reduce the level of damaged cells in the body, caused by aging" [www.sciencedaily.com]

linked to article "Fisetin is a senotherapeutic that extends health and lifespan" [www.ebiomedicine.com]

Was very interested in the results "Fisetin treatment extended the health and lifespan in WT mice even when treatment was initiated in aged animals. This flavonoid is a natural compound present in many fruits and vegetables such as apples, persimmon, grapes, onions, cucumbers and strawberries [43,44], suggesting that it is imminently translatable. Importantly, no adverse effects offisetin have been reported, even when given at high doses [45]....Fisetin, a high Trolox-equivalent antioxidant, is present in low concentrations in many fruits and vegetables such as apples, persimmon, grapes, onions, and cucumbers and at higher concentrations in strawberries [43,44]. The average dietary intake of naturally occurring fisetin in Japan is approximately 0.4 mg/day [78,79], apparently without any adverse effects."

Was able to locate ref 43 Fisetin: A Dietary Antioxidant for Health Promotion [www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] which listed Fisetin levels for 9 fruits and vegetables and referenced this to Kimira M, Arai Y, Shimoi K, and Watanabe S. Japanese intake of flavonoids and isoflavonoids from foods. J Epidemiol
8: 168–175, 1998 [www.jstage.jst.go.jp]

Have been searching for a newer larger Fisetin reference for fruits and vegetables but to date have not found any.

Before posting did a Forum search to check if anyone has already posted a similar question but only got "Phorum Database Error Sorry, a Phorum database error occurred. Please try again later!" Did with same result so decided to post.

Thanks
- The Beginning of Memory Issues

Mary Newport's husband, Steve, was 51 years old when he began to experience memory issues.

"[He was] making payroll mistakes, having trouble organizing his accounting and he began forgetting if he'd been to the bank in the post office, which was very odd. He was only two years older than me and I didn't think I would forget that type of thing."

- Diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and Finding Treatment

In 2004, Steve was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease at the age of 54 years old. Doctors found that he carried an early onset form of the disease which occurs in about 2% of people with Alzheimer's Disease and among individuals who are less than 65 years old.

In an attempt to help her husband, Mary began her own research online. She learned information about ketone bodies as an alternative fuel for the brain. A new and promising medical food was to be released the following year that served as a source for ketone bodies. In clinical trials, the medical food improved the memories of nearly half of all Alzheimer's Disease patients tested.

Nursing Home Abuse - What to look out for (no replies)

If your loved one is in a nursing home and you are concerned about them, look out for signs like physical marks, emotional trauma (depression, anxiety, odd behavior), irregular changes to their will or bank account changes. Unfortunately, there are stories coming to light of caregivers abusing their patients in a variety of ways - it is crucial to do research before moving your loved one into a nursing home.

There was recently a story in the news that a man by the name of Joel Maldonado had allegations of sexual abuse, domestic violence, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest - yet he was still able to land a job at an assisted living facility in Florida. So the issue of background checking nursing home employees has been brought up in recent news due to sexual abuse allegations by elderly patients towards their care givers. It is so important to research the facility before enrolling your loved one into a nursing home - so many factors affect your loved ones safety once they are in the elder home. First, a lot of elders lose their credibility if they have Dementia or Alzheimer's due to their impaired memory and unfortunately, it seems like some caregivers take advantage of that. Second of all, in many cases, caregivers are hired sometimes even if they have sexual abuse allegations pending or previous criminal charges.

I found these nursing home abuse pages helpful in my research -
His older sister died from it in 2012, he has recently been admitted into a nursing home for his advanced stages of AD, and his younger sister is demonstrating the same symptoms of paranoia and memory issues from AD. Isn't it rare that all siblings would develop this disease?

My mother has Alzheimer's disease and we (me and my siblings) are trying to do some financial and legal planning for the future. I'm wondering what type of legal paperwork is required in order for me as a caregiver to take over the finances and make medical decisions for my mom when she's no longer able to handle things on her own. Is a legal power of attorney the only document required?

Hi, My mother is 50 years old. She is going to get her gastric bypass surgery done soon. The problem is since I study out of town, there won't be anyone to take care of her. A family friend suggested moving her to a assisted living home, here in Bridgewood called Prestige Care. Here are the details of it : [www.prestigecare.com]
We have taken an appointment there to see the place. Can anyone please tell me, what are the things we should be looking for there? Especially for someone who had a gastric bypass surgery. How long will she need to stay in a place like that?

I've been having trouble getting my mom to eat many of the foods recommended on the brain healthy diet, she doesn't seem to have much of an appetite now days. After getting educated on the brain healthy diet, going through my mom's kitchen and replacing all of the junk foods with brain healthy alternatives, now she refuses to eat much of the healthy food I've purchased. In fact, she is so picky, I don't see how it's possible for her to eat all of the foods she needs each day. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her to eat more?

Thanks so much to the staff and writers at AlzU.org for the wealth of information. The AlzU.org blog has been most helpful in my personal experience dealing with a family member with Alzheimer's disease. I noticed you recently posted a blog on your website in two parts about macular degeneration. I have a family member who was diagnosed with macular degeneration. I would like more information on the study discussed in the blog. Can you tell me which supplement formula the study found to be most effective in slowing the progression of the disease?

Since his 2011 diagnosis I have approached my husband's behavioral dysfunction with knowledge of the disease and related topics;logging events and self analysis. Living/managing cognitive dysfunction is unchartered waters that requires expanding my focus since he is considered to be in late stage by his primary care physician and Hospice.
I read the recent blog article on your website on malnutrition and Alzheimer's disease, and I just want to say it was VERY helpful. It's good to know that others face some of the same problems our family is going through in dealing with Alzheimer's disease-such as lack of appetite. The article gave us some great tips on what to watch for, when to contact the physician, and some good ideas on improving nutrition and appetite for seniors. Thanks for all of the great tips and up to date information!
