Holiday Gift Ideas for Those with Alzheimer’s Disease

If you are looking for great giver ideas for those with Alzheimer’s disease this holiday season, here are some ideas for a few useful presents your loved one will really appreciate:
Create a photo album (or video) with favorite pictures of friends, family members and memorable events in your loved one’s life.  Be sure to organize photo albums according to dates and label names, dates and places of those in the photos in order to job your loved one’s memory as he/she views the pictures.

Consider giving a gift of time-perhaps for an afternoon walk and/or preparing and eating a meal together.

Other great gift giving ideas for those with AD and their family members include:
Books, activities and other non-drug therapies at http://theadplan.com/alzheimersgifts/ This website includes books on Alzheimer’s prevention and diet written by a Harvard trained neurologist, a Kindle Fire for ordering books online, light therapy treatment, and more.  These gifts start at under $20.

Another great idea for holiday gifts for those with AD is to give some innovative CD’s including “Therapy for Memory,” music activity and education program for those with AD which can be found at http://www.therapyformemory.org/music/  Memory for Therapy has been approved by a medical advisory team and offers soothing music to listen to while sleeping.  Another great gift giving idea is a physical and mental exercise CD designed just for seniors at http://www.therapyformemory.org/physical_exercise/

If you are looking for an online program to help with memory, check out http://www.lumosity.com/, a website that offers weekly games and programs designed to assist with memory and improve mental attention.
