Nursing Home Abuse - What to look out for
June 20, 2017 06:20PM
If your loved one is in a nursing home and you are concerned about them, look out for signs like physical marks, emotional trauma (depression, anxiety, odd behavior), irregular changes to their will or bank account changes. Unfortunately, there are stories coming to light of caregivers abusing their patients in a variety of ways - it is crucial to do research before moving your loved one into a nursing home.

There was recently a story in the news that a man by the name of Joel Maldonado had allegations of sexual abuse, domestic violence, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest - yet he was still able to land a job at an assisted living facility in Florida. So the issue of background checking nursing home employees has been brought up in recent news due to sexual abuse allegations by elderly patients towards their care givers. It is so important to research the facility before enrolling your loved one into a nursing home - so many factors affect your loved ones safety once they are in the elder home. First, a lot of elders lose their credibility if they have Dementia or Alzheimer's due to their impaired memory and unfortunately, it seems like some caregivers take advantage of that. Second of all, in many cases, caregivers are hired sometimes even if they have sexual abuse allegations pending or previous criminal charges.

I found these nursing home abuse pages helpful in my research -
